The Weight Of Gold.
2020 | Documentary | 1h
When Michael Phelps came out of retirement to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, it was an experience full of contradictory emotions. On the one hand, he had the thrill of adding to his storied legacy and historical gold medal count with his wife Nicole and son Boomer in the stands.
But Michael also knew all too well the dark demon of "Post Olympic Depression" that would likely be waiting for he and all his Team USA teammates as soon as they returned home. Then, just months before the 2018 Winter Games, current Olympic Bobsled Captain Steven Holcomb died from a lethal overdose of pills and alcohol following a previous suicide attempt. Just twelve days prior he had given a long interview about his struggles. This is the film that sheds light on this critical and little known issue.
